Last night, 60 Minutes correspondent David Martin presented a fascinating 2-part special report on the emerging threat of conflict that is growing in geostationary orbit found 35,786 km (22,236 miles) above the Earth’s equator. This is where America has placed more satellites than any other country, some of which are essential to early-warning missile detection and other military-related operations, and almost all of which are used for everything from internet and television to banking and GPS. But as China and Russia invest more in anti-satellite weaponry, these vulnerable — and incredibly expensive — pieces of technology are susceptible to attack. You can watch part 1 above and part 2 below. (Photo courtesy of Wikipedia)
