I can remember the first time I watched David Lynch‘s groundbreaking television cult classic TWIN PEAKS in the spring of 1990 when I was all of 14-years-old. I will never forget that feeling of having discovered the meaning of “atmosphere” for the very first time. There was something so deliciously unusual about the small, fictional Northwest town that Lynch had created, and it activated my newfound appetite for the phantasmagorical.
It’s not often when we can remember discovering a new feeling for the very first time, which is why I have a tendency to connect so many of my favorite works of this genre back to Lynch. PORTISHEAD pulled these Lynchian strings when I first heard them, as does the music of James Blake, HOW TO DRESS WELL, and many others. The latest addition to this list is STUBBORN HEART and their brand new self-titled album.
