Ron Arad is the renowned industrial designer who has been just as busy designing as he has been at collecting all his awards, or designing giant immersive LED rotundas out of silicon rods. And now he’s reinvented the bicycle — literally. For his latest work, Arad has done away with the conventional spoke + rubber bicycle wheels that are the industry standard, and has replaced them with flower-like assemblages of 18 strips of tempered steel plates bolted together to create tension as well as give the tires some comfortable bounce. If you find yourself staying at the W Hotel in London’s Leicester Square you can give the bike a test run until October 29th.
