Everyone has a favorite film that they watch over and over again, and usually that film will have some food or recipes in it that will forever remind you of that film. Food is a huge part of our lives, and different recipes will mean different things to you. For example, a turkey dinner is associated with holiday times such as Thanksgiving, or Christmas, and BBQ ribs might remind you of family barbecues by the beach. Food evokes nostalgic feelings, and if you see food in a film, you may want to recreate it at home to feel even more part of your favorite movie. There are many recipes you can recreate at home, below are just a few examples of recipes you could recreate to remind you of your favorite movie scene.
Lady And The Tramp
Who doesn’t love this classic Disney movie about the Cocker Spaniel from the high class neighborhood, and the scruffy street wise dog who spends his life avoiding capture by the authorities? It’s a movie almost everyone has seen, whether that be the classic animated version, or the more recent CGI one, it is a movie most people love. If you ask anyone about this film, they will probably discuss the scene when Lady and Tramp are sharing a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, and they end up eating the same strand of spaghetti, leading to them romantically meeting noses, who could forget this wonderful scene? So, to recreate this iconic scene at home, a decadent recipe of spaghetti and meatballs is the way to go. There are so many to choose from online, so have a look through some to find one, and you’ll feel as though you’re right there in the middle of a Disney movie.
Julie and Julia
Julie and Julia has become a cult favorite over the last few years, with many people loving this movie. The memorable scene from this movie is when Julie falls asleep whilst the beef bourguignon is cooking, and totally ruins it, therefore she calls off work the following day to try again, and then falls in love with this wonderful recipe. Beef bourguignon is a classic French dish, and the Julia Child’s recipe is still available for you to recreate and enjoy at home. However, this does take a long time to make, and is definitely for a special occasion. For an easier dish that will give you similar vibes, you could consider making something like an instant pot broccoli beef, which can be made as a more regular meal.
Matilda
This movie is a childhood favorite for many of us, and if you haven’t seen the movie then you’ve probably read the book, and you may even have seen the theatre show that has become so popular over the last few years. There are so many classic lines from this book, but who can forget when Ms Trunchbull says: ‘You wanted cake, you got cake. NOW EAT IT’ to Bruce. A scene that many of us remember that can be recreated at home by creating a delicious, gooey, decadent, wonderful chocolate cake. This is a recipe you can get the whole family involved in making, and create beautiful memories. If you’re rushed for time however, you can also buy cake mixes, or even make it in an instant pot so you can get your cake fix all the quicker.
Forrest Gump
Just about everyone has seen this movie, with many memorable quotes such as ‘Run Forrest, Run’, or ‘You got new legs!’ or the classic ‘Mamma always said life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get’. So, the classic food here you could recreate are the chocolates that Forrest sits on the bench sharing with all the people who listen to his story. Chocolate truffles are fairly easy to make, and make a wonderful gift to your friends or family, or keep them for yourself to eat whilst re-watching this cinematic masterpiece. But, who could forget Bubba, Forrest’s friend throughout his time fighting in the war, who tells Forrest repeatedly about shrimp, and the many different ways to eat it. Shrimp is an incredibly versatile food, and can be eaten in many different variations, and Bubba talks about all the ways it can be cooked, that no matter what recipe you choose, you’ll be channelling your inner Bubba.
Bridget Jones’ Diary
Remember the scene where Bridget is trying to cook a birthday meal for her friends, but is absolutely hopeless at cooking? Then Mr Darcy turns up, and it’s hopelessly romantic as they fall about laughing over the fact her leek soup has turned blue due to unintended results of tying the leeks together with blue string. You can easily recreate this at home, using a recipe for cream of leek soup. Although it’s not recommended to tie the leeks together with blue string!
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
A truly wonderful film, the scene that defines this film is when Holly Golightly is eating a croissant while peering into the window of Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue in New York City, whilst dressed in her iconic style. To recreate this at home, you could make some wonderful, homemade croissants. This does take a little bit of time, and can be a bit fiddly to make, but making these at home will give you a real sense of achievement and taste better than any you buy at the grocery store. It’s not entirely clear what typeof croissant Holly is eating, so you have a bit of free rein here, you could go for the classic plain croissant, or for a bit more pizazz you could make almond croissants, or indulge your sweet tooth with a chocolate croissant or even a pain au chocolate. Whichever version you go for, have it with a cup of coffee and channel your inner Audrey Hepburn.
If your favorite film hasn’t been listed here, you can still recreate a version of the food from the movie you love, just get researching and you’ll be living the life of your favorite character before long!
