If you combine Hollywood, butchers, and art deco flair you get GWEN, the city’s stunning new restaurant and butcher shop. Located in an old 1928 building on Sunset Boulevard, GWEN is the second L.A. restaurant from Curtis Stone, the chef made famous by Top Chef Masters on Bravo. Coming in at an impressive 7,000 sq.ft, GWEN features a wine room, dining room, and a chef’s counter — as well as an in-house butcher. The impressive interior design comes courtesy of Oliver & Evan Haslegrave of the Brooklyn-based design firm Home Studios. You can make your reservation at GWEN right now by visiting GWENLA.com. GWEN is at 6600 Sunset Boulevard, and if you take a 10-minute drive south you’ll find yourself in front of another impressive art deco masterpiece — the 11-storey Desmond Tower at 5514 Wilshire Boulevard. If you step inside the elevator lobby you will meet 75-year-old Ruben Pardo. Ruben is the last elevator operator in all of Los Angeles, and he operates the elevator 6 days a week. His story was recently told by the team at Dress Code, whose 4-minute video profile of Ruben was quickly selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick. You can watch it below at the very bottom.
