Directed by Academy Award-winner Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, Amores Perros, Babel, 21 Grams), THE REVENANT stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and tells the true story of Hugh Glass, an American fur trapper who was left for dead after a grizzly bear mauling in South Dakota in the 1820s. The brand new trailer was released this morning, and it’s a doozy. “Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit,” reads the official synopsis. “In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.” Filming took place in British Columbia and Alberta including Victoria, Fortress Mountain, Calgary, and at Mammoth Studios just east of Vancouver. Filming was supposed to be 100% in Canada, but because temperatures were too warm, producers had to shoot the snowiest scenes in Argentina. THE REVENANT opens in North America on December 25, 2015.
