In 2013, Paris-based designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec installed their stunning Gabriel Chandelier inside the entrance to the Château de Versailles. Made of looping cords of illuminated custom-built Swarovski crystals, the chandelier is as impressive a work of art as it is a stunning achievement of engineering. The Gabriel Chandelier is the first permanent contemporary artwork ever to be installed inside the historic Château de Versailles, and hangs above the iconic Gabriel Staircase. Watching the two accompanying videos explaining the backstory of the design left me absolutely awestruck. (Photos courtesy of Studio Bouroullec)
