Lifeguards are a vital part of beach life, and it’s easy sometimes to take them for granted because much of the time we see them sitting up on their tower sitting still.  But lifeguards in Los Angeles were in the water so much this past year that they rescued a whopping 10,000 people in 2014 so far.  What’s more, that figure is more than double the number in all of 2012 and 2013 combined.  Very impressive indeed.
