This past Saturday in a shopping mall in Boston, a homeless man by the name of Glen James discovered a backpack filled with $40,000 in cash and traveler’s cheques. Glen took that bag straight to the police who then quickly returned the money to its rightful owner. This story alone made international “feel good” headlines, and once again reminded that human beings are truly remarkable creatures indeed. But the story doesn’t end there — not by a long shot.
When Ethan Whittington, a 27-year-old marketing firm employee from Alabama, heard Glen’s story he started an online fundraising campaign via GoFundMe.com, and as of this evening that campaign has raised a whopping total of $76,280 (and growing). The campaign has also generated donations of clothing, food, and computers. What’s more, a “major corporation” has come forward with the possibility of a job for James, as well as an undisclosed large financial donation (beyond the $76,280 already tallied) and financial guidance for the fundraising team in order to help them generate as much money for Glen as humanly possible.
