A major part of the success of director Nicolas Winding Refn’s smash hit film DRIVE was undoubtedly the brilliant soundtrack.  Although the score itself was composed by Cliff Martinez, the true brilliance of the other half of DRIVE‘s music is due to producer Johnny Jewel.  Jewel — who is also the frontman and creative force behind the groups GLASS CANDY, CHROMATICS, as well as the founder of the music label Italians Do It Better — is a very busy man.  Among the projects on his full plate is the soundtrack to the upcoming remake of Logan’s Run (also being directed by Refn, although the project is in development limbo at the moment), and the directorial debut of my Future Husband Ryan Gosling, entitled How To Catch A Monster.  In a recent interview with Noisey, Jewel gave some illuminating details of the film.  “It’s more doo-wop, disintegrated rockabilly mixed in with industrial sounds,” Jewel says.  “So we’ve been listening to a lot of Alan Vega and the Shangri-La’s.”  Apart from the style of music he’s working on for the movie, Jewel also revealed something else about the film which tells the story of a mother and her two teenage sons who stumble upon a secret road which leads to an underwater town.  “It’s a really bizarre, fantasy-type story, in the vein of ‘Goonies’ meets ‘Twin Peaks.'”  Ryan Gosling’s How To Catch A Monster stars Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan and Doctor Who star Matt Smith.
