“Jenny From The Block” will soon officially join 2,499 other Hollywood icons, becoming part of a real city block on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On Thursday the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that singer, actress, businesswoman, producer and philanthropist Jennifer Lopez will receive the 2,500th star on the famous stretch of Los Angeles.
The tradition of the five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along fifteen blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California began in 1958. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others. The Walk of Fame is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and maintained by the self-financing Hollywood Historic Trust.
Bill Whitaker of CBS This Morning took a closer look at the tradition, and discovered there’s one family that’s been in charge of building and installing the stars for the past 55 years, and you can watch the story in full below.
