Ever since its premiere at this year’s Sundance in January, director David Lowery‘s Ain’t Them Bodies Saints has been building a growing momentum of anticipation. Starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, the film recently bowed to audiences at Cannes who immediately bowed in return with a rapturous standing ovation when the film film’s final credits began to roll. The story follows Bob (Affleck) and his girlfriend Ruth (Mara) who, after a lengthy crime spree, are finally cornered by police. During a shootout an officer is injured by gunfire and Bob takes the blame. After four years in prison he escapes to once again be with his girl and his child he has yet to see, and that’s where things get complicated. Glowing reviews are pouring in left and right for this one, and I’ll be the first in line when Ain’t Them Bodies Saints arrives in theatres on August 16th.
