I first discovered Montreal indie pop singer Mac DeMarco on the streets of Montreal myself back in November 2012. His most recent album, entitled 2, was released last October, and ever since Mac has taken the world by storm (he even headlined on for PHOENIX on their recent tour). There are several standout tracks on 2, but one of my favorites has to be “My Kind Of Woman”. The song just got its own brand new video directed by Alex Lill and produced by Newcomer Pictures. When coming up with a concept for the video, Lill flipped the song’s meaning on its head. Lill tells NOWNESS: “We wanted to do something different, so changed the track’s original intention of being a love song between a man and a woman to become an ode between a man and himself — his feminine self.” The video was filmed in a David Lynchian junk/prop yard in La Brea, southeast of Los Angeles, and if you look closely you’ll catch a glimpse of Mac’s “cheekiness”.
