MMOTHS is the moniker of Irish-born musician Jack Colleran (born in May 1993) who, after a few years of playing in local bands, began making his own music on his laptop in 2010. MMOTHS (a play on the word “motts”, a local Irish term for “girls”) released his self-titled debut EP in March 2012, and was quickly signed by Los Angeles-based record company SQE Music (which sadly has the saddest website I’ve ever seen — not one single link to MMOTHS’ music whatsoever). This Is Fake DIY described the EP as “an utterly beautiful blend of electronics that are somehow crafted to evolve with an aching sense of soulful intimacy,” and last month MMOTHS released his sophomore EP Diaries. He also put together a gorgeous new playlist entitled ALONE which I’ve embedded below. As Colleran himself notes, “This mix consists of some tracks I’ve been listening to a lot lately. During the day I never really get a chance to sit down and listen to music, it’s usually just before I go to sleep. I kind of like it that way though, alone in the dark concentrating only on what you’re listening to. I think this mix needs to be heard that way too: alone in the dark.” For all things MMOTHS be sure to visit MMOTHSmusic.com, and follow him on Facebook (which also has purchase links to his music). Worth noting is the fact that in August 2012 MMOTHS opened for Aphex Twin. A hugely impressive achievement for any musician, let alone one who is all of 20-years-old.
