Late last year there was some Oscar buzz surrounding James Franco for his performance in director Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, where he plays a drug dealer named Alien who bails out some naughty teenage girls from jail and takes them under his wing. The film is being released on March 29th, so we’ll have to wait until next year to see if Franco’s Oscar nod dreams come true or not, but in the meantime the film’s soundtrack by Skrillex and Cliff Martinez (DRIVE) promises to steal every scene in the movie I’m sure. The very first trailer for Spring Breakers was released this week and you can check it out below. And from the sex, drugs, and booze-filled beaches of Florida to the murky swamps of Texas, director Jeff Nichols‘ latest film MUD also got its first trailer recently as well. You might recall Nichols is the genius behind the amazingness that is Take Shelter starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, which I spent most of 2011 raving about. In MUD, Nichols reteams with Michael Shannon who takes a supporting role this time around as he hands over the lead to Matthew McConaughey. The story follows two teenage boys who encounter a fugitive and form a pact to help him evade the bounty hunters on his trail, and to reunite him with his true love (played by Reese Witherspoon). You might also recognize Tye Sheridan who played one of the three sons in Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life. MUD is set for release in April 2013.
