ONE SIMPLE WISH is an organization dedicated to granting wishes to foster children across America, and last night the work of this amazing network was profiled on NBC Nightly News in a feature story by Anne Thompson. As I was watching Anne’s report I was immediately reminded of the unique challenges that foster children face compared to kids who are raised by their own parents. Through no fault of their own they have found themselves immersed in a life experience without the unconditional love of a mother or father.
Certainly many of these kids are placed in loving homes, but far too many fall through the cracks and turn inwards, never fully developing an understanding of what it means to truly be loved, nurtured, and cared for. However, with the extraordinary work of ONE SIMPLE WISH these kids are being reminded that they’re not forgotten, that life truly does get better, and that building a big, beautiful and brilliant future of their own can start with something as simple as a wish. If you’re interested in helping, please visit their website OneSimpleWish.org where potential donors can register and search a database to choose the wish they’d like to grant.
I discovered ONE SIMPLE WISH earlier this morning as I was listening to Washington, D.C.-based dreampop duo GEMS and their gorgeous little jewel entitled “All I Ever”. You can listen to it below, and for all things GEMS be sure to visit them at GEMS-band.com and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud. You can purchase your own copy of “All I Ever” in the Soundcloud window below.
