Over the past couple months, P.T. Anderson fans have been treated with a slew of teasers and trailers for his upcoming film THE MASTER which looks like it’s about to take the awards season by storm. Likely to be front-and-centre during this film’s all but certain bounty of critical acclaim is Joaquin Phoenix who plays “lost soul” Freddie Sutton. Freddie is taken under the wing of Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and his faith-based cult, and the film is widely regarded as a brilliant take down of Scientology, the dipshit freaks who run it (Hoffman’s portrayal of Dodd is all but a carbon copy of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard), and the weak individuals who fall into its darkness. The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, and open in North America on October 12th in 65mm.
