Yesterday I zenned out in my local magazine store and came across Architectural Record‘s profile of “House Roces”, a Belgian residence that I swiftly added to my growing list of dream homes. The house is located in the outskirts of Bruges, and was designed by Benny Govaert and Damiaan Vanhoutte of Goavert & Vanhoutte Architects. The pair founded their practice in Bruges back in 1989 with a mutual passion for modern pioneers such as Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier. Vanhoutte tells Architectural Record, “We also love Richard Neutra’s and Rudolf Schindler’s California houses in the Hollywood era.” The House Roces is, in fact, the home of Govaert himself, and his wife and two children. Goavert had found a narrow slice of land measuring 230- x 99-feet, which was a perfect fit for his love of rectilinear glass box pavilion style architecture. The home comes in at an impressive 2,874-square-feet, and its glass translucency completely dissolves it into the tree-studded landscape it nestles in.
