I have covered a large variety of residential architecture projects here on FEELguide, many of which I would classify as personal dream homes of mine. But this morning that bar was raised even higher the second I laid my eyes upon “The Stereoscopic House” in Singapore. While glancing through these images I was bowled over by the staggering interplay of sophistication, complexity, whimsy, and poetic massaging of site, light, materiality, and openness which the designers have infused into this extraordinary home. Designed by the geniuses of the design firm Pencil Office, in collaboration with architects of record HK Hia & Associates, the Stereoscopic House is a private home built on pristine Sentosa Island of Singapore.
The residence is quite simply a dream machine of both form and function, and achieves the ultimate goal of architecture in the sense that clearly this building undoubtedly lifts the souls and well-being of those fortunate enough to call it home. The framed views of the ocean, the adjacent golf course, the gorgeous perforated light-filtering screens, the adjustable privacy and relationship of the front facade to the street, the ground floor comprised mainly of floor-to-ceiling glass, the stunning herringbone pattern wooden skin, the blurring of the line between interior and exterior, the veranda to die for — the entire package is an absolute triumph and an incredible accomplishment. Huge congrats to the designers — this one of those cases where “WOW” is nothing short of an understatement.
