Ridley Scott fans around the world just had their intrigue factor bumped up several notches yesterday with the release of a batch of new images from Prometheus, the upcoming prequel to his 1979 science fiction masterpiece ALIEN. The images will be published in next week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly, and they help shed some light on what to expect from the film which has been shrouded in layers of mystery. To help place these images in context the following is the official synopsis of the film: “A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.” First up is a photo showing Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace, from the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), her lover Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green), and her android companion David (Michael Fassbender). Adorned in their beat-up space suits, the trio appear to be transfixed by something in the distance. In all likelihood they’re staring at the giant monolithic head in the Ampule Room, the name of the room further connecting to the synopsis (an “ampule” is a small glass vial used to preserve a sample, usually of a liquid). Perhaps the vial contains the source of all life in the universe? And in the third photo we get our first glimpse of Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) and Captain Janek (Idris Elba) inside the cockpit of their ship The Prometheus. In an interview this past weekend, Theron said she couldn’t reveal any of the storyline’s main elements, but she was allowed to fill us in on the fact that she shares no scenes with her co-star Patrick Wilson: “He’s all in flashback,” Theron said.
