Line Of Best Fit, one of the most bang-on music trades I have come to rely on, recently gave Korallaven‘s brand new album its 5-star golden seal of approval. And it was in this review that I was blown away to learn that Korallraven is actually composed of Marcus Joons and one member of The Radio Department (one of my all-time favorite groups): Daniel Tjäder. Amazingness. In their review of the album, entitled simply An Album by Korallreven, LOBF writes: “[it’s] a piece of music that is, in turns, spiritual, hypnotic, dreamy and beautiful. As much as it’s a record of electronic pop music, it’s so much more and speaks to us about life, love, dreams and ambitions.” The album has been a passion project for the duo two years in the making, and its conception and initial realization took place on the South Pacific Island of Samoa. The pair describe how they wanted to embed the album with the same spiritual and hypnotic power of church choirs, capable of channelling the power of nature and taking the listener to a place beyond this dimension. One track where this is beautifully achieved is “Sa Sa Samoa”, a collaboration with Brooklyn-based experimentalist Julianna Barwick, and you can listen to it below in all its glory.
