I’ve been chomping at the bit to see Take Shelter for a while now, and I shouldn’t have to wait too much longer since it’s being rolled out slowly this coming weekend in New York and Los Angeles. Nearly every single top critic who has seen the film hasn’t shied away from using such words as “masterpiece” and even “American classic”. The Playlist is among the creme-de-la-creme of this inner circle of cinema’s most trusted critics, and they had the following to say about the film:
Directed by Jeff Nichols, “Take Shelter” is an unforgettable drama and an incredibly chilling look at madness and genuine apocalyptic fears (read our review from Sundance earlier this year). The picture moves in like a bad storm rising, a reckoning about to unravel and Wingo’s textured and disquieting score does wonders to set that unsettling mood.
Yesterday The Playlist profiled the good-as-gold score from Take Shelter, and give it nearly as much praise as the film itself. David Wingo is the master behind the music here, and if you’re unfamiliar with his work, he’s best known in indie-rock circles for his work in the atmospheric and folky outfit Ola Podrida. The soundtrack is being released digitally on September 28th, with an audio sampler below. You can purchase the disc on Amazon, and to read the full feature profile of the soundtrack, as well as to learn more about David Wingo’s musical background, be sure to visit The Playlist. If I wasn’t freaking over this movie already, I most certainly am now.
