If you’re noticing tempers flaring in people around you these past few days, along with a strange spike in fits of rage and unusual nightmares, you are not alone. Today’s full Moon — which is cause enough for odd behavior — also happens to be in the extremely rare position of being a Sagittarius Moon while at the same time it’s entering a Mercury Retrograde phase (Mercury Rx) — arguably the most dangerous full Moon of the entire year. Mercury Retrograde (which began June 2nd and ends June 11th) is, in itself, a period to be weary of. Susmita Baral writes: “This is one of the handful of times of the year when Mercury rotates slower than usual and this creates the illusion that the planet is moving backwards. From an astrological standpoint, Mercury Retrograde means nothing but trouble. Those who believe in astrology would be advised by astrologers not to make any big purchases or life decisions.” If you work in an office environment you will also notice — more than most other people — that machines and digital equipment are breaking down or going on the fritz for no reason, the #1 most common side effect of Mercury Retrograde.
Adding to the heaviness of this full Moon is the fact that it’s in Sagittarius — a period which provokes internal and external conflict. Barbara Herman of International Business Times writes: “Sagittarius is faith, wisdom, religion, higher education, publishing, foreign travel, and the quest for truth. So the full Moon will highlight these themes in our lives and we will see them highlighted in the media as well. We may decide to go on a journey, go back to school, or publish our ideas. World events may point a finger toward faith, religion, and belief. This is actually a dynamic full Moon because of the planetary aspects it’s making. It opposes Mars, the Sun, and Mercury. There’s an in-your-face quality to this full moon because of Mars. We may have our ideas or faith challenged. We may feel incited to go on a crusade of sorts or defend what we believe in. Jupiter, the ruler of the full Moon, makes an aspect to Uranus. Our ideas and beliefs are cutting edge, they awaken others, or they are ahead of their time. The full Moon also makes a hard aspect to Neptune, so there’s a theme of loss, surrender, compassion, and forgiveness.”
The combo of a Sagittarius Moon and Mercury Retrograde can also cause small spats to go into full-blown meltdown mode, as well as spark unusually vivid and traumatic nightmares, painful headaches, and an unrelenting feeling of psychological and physiological heaviness. Gala Darling adds: “We sometimes start to feel the effects of Mercury retrograde a few days early [i.e. in this case May 30, 2015.] It’s nice to give yourself a bit of leeway on either side of the prescribed dates. What happens when Mercury goes retrograde? All sorts of things. It’s like everyone you know has suddenly gone mad! You might find yourself getting into bizarre arguments about nothing at all, being unable to finish sentences or barely even able to form a coherent thought. Your computer and other electronic equipment is more likely to go on the fritz. You could experience travel delays, too. Double-check your flights and take a book with you to keep you occupied while you wait for the train. We don’t tend to get all the information we need at this time, so it can be hard to make big decisions and it’s not always the best time to sign a contract, either.”
