NO FEAR OF POP recently handed over control of their exquisite Berlin-based music site to their good friend John Kowalski of SOLAR BEARS. It’s the second time the NFOP team let John serve as guest editor, and he took the opportunity to once again showcase his top picks of Ireland’s most exciting new musicians and producers, and this time John teamed up with his buddy Dorje De Burgh who provided some lovely visual art to accompany the selections. I’ve attached some of my own favorites here below, including Simon Cullen and Sorca McGrath of SHIPS and their amazing light-filled track “Places”. I can’t explain why, but if I were to direct a music video for “Places” I would set it on a suburban street at Christmas with a carefully choreographed Christmas light show perfectly timed to the cascading notes (and probably mix in some scenes from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation). Second of my faves has to be LAKKER‘s thumpingly delicious “Arc (Original Mix)”, and thirdly is my favorite of all three — “The Night Mail” by the duo NEW JACKSON comprised of David Kitt and Diamond Dagger. You can listen to the entire selection of ten by visiting NOFEAROFPOP.net.
