Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes caught up with legendary paleontologist Jack Horner, the inspiration for the lead character in Steven Spielberg’s classic 1993 film Jurassic Park. In this fascinating glimpse into Horner’s impressive career as the world’s #1 dinosaur hunter, Horner and his research colleague Mary Schweitzer reveal how an “accident” led to one of the most mindblowing discoveries in paleontology history. When Schweitzer accidentally used too much acid on one of Horner’s rock hard dinosaur bone fossils, she analyzed it nonetheless and what she saw next was nothing short of astonishing — in tact blood vessels within the bone that were rubbery when manipulated under the microscope (you have to watch the report to believe this). And that’s just the beginning. Horner has a plan for bringing dinosaurs back to life — and he says it will happen in approximately five years.
